Trump's EPA Budget Details Announced

Trump's draft EPA budget: a love letter to Big Energy
Smokestacks and pollution

Dear Larry -
Trump's draft EPA budget is in -- and it's one giant, water-poisoning, coal ash-spilling, asthma-inducing love letter to his Big Energy cronies.
The truly draconian document puts wildlife and human health in serious jeopardy by (among other things):
  • Halting the Clean Power Plan and its first-ever carbon emissions limits on dirty, coal-fired power plants.
  • Decimating the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which protects the planet's largest freshwater source, by slashing its funding from $300 million to $10 million.
  • Threatening the Chesapeake Bay, the country's largest estuary, by cutting funding for monitoring and compliance with environmental laws from $73 million to $5 million.
  • Stripping funding for toxic cleanup in communities contaminated by industrial waste.
And EPA chief Scott Pruitt, who is tasked with protecting us from pollution? He just said that he doesn't believe carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming.
We're not about to let Trump and Pruitt sell our kids' health down a dangerously polluted river. We're prepared to fight them in the courts and on Capitol Hill, in town halls and on talk radio. But to do that, we need reinforcements: 800 new monthly donors by midnight tonight. Can we count on you to be one of them?

As if this radical EPA budget wasn't enough horror to inflict on the planet in one week, Trump's prepping to sign yet another reckless Executive Order freezing the Obama Climate Action Plan and launching a "review" of international climate agreements, including the Paris deal.
Larry, lives are at stake. We're talking about our drinking water, already poisoned in numerous communities by lead and other contaminants. We're talking about the air in regions already plagued by rising child asthma levels, choked with more power plant pollution.
Eliminating common-sense air and water safeguards -- all so that Trump's Big Energy backers can dig, drill and deforest, unencumbered -- is just inviting the next Flint water crisis, BP Oil disaster or Dan River coal ash spill. We're not going to let that happen.
The Sierra Club is 2.7 million strong, mobilized and mad as hell -- we're ready to hit the streets, jam legislators' phone lines, and flood social media to stop Trump's disastrous policies. But we can't do it all without 800 new monthly donors by midnight TONIGHT. Please, give now.
This isn't going to be an easy fight. Trump has put politicians backed by powerful corporate polluters in charge of our precious public lands and our children's health. How hard we can fight back depends entirely on what you do right now.
Onward,
Michael Brune

P.S. -- If you've recently become a monthly donor, THANK YOU. The response has been overwhelming and we're still processing donations.
