We can't let Rex Tillerson become our next Secretary of State.
Dear Larry -
It's on: ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, whose dubious credits include close ties to Vladimir Putin, sanction-defying business deals with Iran, and millions in donations to climate-change denial groups, is, after yesterday's Senate confirmation hearing, one step closer to becoming Secretary of State.

Tillerson's countless conflicts of interest and relationships with dictators and oligarchs make him the most dangerous cabinet pick in recent memory. His record at ExxonMobil -- corruption schemes, human rights abuses, investor fraud -- paints a terrifying picture of America's diplomatic future.

The Sierra Club is fighting this OUTRAGEOUS nominee tooth and nail. We're launching a 100 hour campaign that includes protests, thousands of petitions and phone calls, and ground campaigns to pressure swing-state Senators. But with just days until the full Senate vote, we desperately need your help right now.
There's no question: Tillerson's confirmation would be disastrous, around the world and here at home. Tillerson is the living embodiment of every ill-conceived Trump priority: cozying up to Russia; discrediting climate science; and dismantling every obstacle to unfettered energy development despite the cost to clean air and water.
By nominating the CEO of one of the world's largest and most environmentally destructive fossil fuel corporations, Donald Trump has again made clear he'll put profits above the planet. You can bet he'll push Tillerson to reboot Keystone XL, weaken or even undo climate treaties, and advance trade deals that undermine environmental and safety standards.
Conveniently, Tillerson could also ease sanctions on Russia, which would benefit Exxon's oil development -- and Russian investors in Trump's own business ventures. Shady doesn't begin to describe the dynamic between these two -- and the implications for America's foreign policy interests could be cataclysmal.
We REFUSE to let Tillerson slide through the Senate. We're fighting this unthinkable nomination with every tool and resource at our disposal. But the scope and intensity of our grassroots campaign to push Senators of conscience to stand up for the planet and block Tillerson on the floor COMPLETELY depends on what you give right now.
Please don't sit on the sidelines for this crucial fight. We still have many environmental champions in the Senate, and a number of Senators on the fence. With your help, we can exert enough pressure to stop Tillerson from drilling us into diplomatic crisis. Please donate today.

Thank you for all you're doing to protect our planet -- and our democracy.

Sincerely,

Michael Brune
